you don't want to worry about whether you
can trust the family vehicle.

Just a wild guess – you’d say your life here in Richmond is pretty busy already? You live a full life and it keeps you on the go. You’re probably not looking for new things to add to your hectic schedule, are you? But, if you have children, you’re gonna have to fit a bunch more into that daily agenda of yours.

Why would your schedule suddenly explode with new events and trips you’ll have to make? Because school is about to start again.

We are on the doorstep of another school year here in Richmond, IL. You’re going to be busy – busier. Right off the bat, here are some trips you’re going to have to schedule:

If you haven’t done so already, you may have to register your budding genius for school
Doctor’s appointment to get your child up to date on vaccines
Trip to the store for school supplies (inevitably we all forget something and it turns into more than one trip)
You may need to pick up books for the school year
Your offspring has probably outgrown some of their clothes or, at least, they need to catch up on the latest fashions – that’s another trip or two to the store
Will your son or daughter be playing sports with a school team this year? If so, practice probably starts before the official school year starts, and then there’s uniforms
If your child is trying out for band or orchestra, they’ll need to rent or buy their instrument and, possibly, they’ll also need uniforms

While you’re trying to meet the additional demands of those aspects of the list above that apply to you and your child, or children, that already busy schedule continues. No doubt, your customary schedule includes:

Planning dinners and grocery shopping
Doing laundry and household cleaning and chores
You may still have yardwork that needs to be done
Do you belong to any organizations that have meetings and duties?
With all of this, do you have the audacity to try to have a social life?
What about your child’s social life – they probably want to continue with that?
And then you need to keep your child, or children on task with their burgeoning responsibilities
In the meantime, you should try to set some time aside for fun activities with the young’uns.

It helps to set goals. And while you set chores for yourself, don’t be afraid to do so for the kids, too.

By the way, how is the family conveyance running? Is the car, truck or SUV in good shape? It’s not going to develop problems in the midst of your efforts to keep up with everything? That’s the last thing you need. Your schedule is busy enough without adding the headaches of an ailing automobile.

One good idea is to have the family vehicle checked out before the back-to-school action gets into full swing. Not only will you, hopefully, avoid any mechanical complications, but you’ll have that level of peace of mind to help balance the madness of your pending mayhem.

Richmond schools are opening again but you can survive – you will survive. Just take a deep breath, plan ahead and set off with a calm demeanor and determination. Oh, and don’t forget to get photos of your children on their first day back to school. In spite of everything, these are days to remember in years to come.

October 20 Hootenanny will benefit veterans with PTSD

Been to a Hootenanny lately? When you read that question did you ask, “What?” Well, if you have gone to a Hootenanny in a while, or if you don’t know what a hootenanny is, we have an event for Oct. 20 that will clear up either question. From 6 p.m. to Midnight, Saturday, Oct. 20, MC3, the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce business networking group, is helping to host an inaugural Veterans R&R Wild Horse Hootenanny at Beyond Stable Farm (11129 Rte. 176, Woodstock). The event will benefit Veterans R&R Operation Wild Horse. Operation Wild Horse serves veterans with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Working with the horses has proven to have an incredibly calming effect on the veterans. And, it’s good for the horses, too, rescued wild mustangs.
