Steps to keep yourself safe from coronavirus

You’ve probably heard most of this. But, from time to time, additional information has dripped out about other steps you should take to keep yourself safe from the coronavirus pandemic. Our thought was to put these in one concise place for you to quickly review:

Avoid unnecessary public exposure: We’re all fairly familiar with this by now. However, with winter’s grip on cabin fever continued by the coronavirus beyond what might have been its normal end, the temptation to venture out may feel strong. Stick to it a little longer and you may keep yourself and other loved ones safe while contributing to the war on COVID-19.
Maintain a safe distance from others: Social distancing means that you’ll do all you can to avoid the possibility that a cough, a sneeze or simply the breathing or talking of another person could spread the virus to you through the air.
Wear a face mask when out in public: If you can find a facemask for sale, it’s a good purchase at this time. If not, wearing a bandana across the face may help.
Wash your hands often: We can’t stress this enough. Anytime you have to touch something that could have been touched recently (within the last 72 hours) by someone else, wash your hands as soon as possible. They say you should wash long enough to sing Happy Birthday to yourself.
Keep your hands away from your face: This fits in with washing your hands often. If the virus is on your hands, and you touch your face, there’s a good chance you’re giving the virus access to your internal organs.
Wash your hands after pumping gas or wear nitrile gloves: The last person to use the gas pump may have had coronavirus. Be safe and don’t take a chance.
Wash your hands after you open your mail: The mail you take from your mailbox could contain the virus.
Wash your hands after handling food from the store and wash the food, too: Someone else may have checked out that tomato you chose from the produce section of the grocery store. Even products boxed or bagged for sale at the store could have the virus. And carts you collect your groceries in could also have the virus on their surface.
Eat healthy food and drink lots of water: A healthy diet will help you to maintain your immune system at its optimal strength and ability to fight off the virus if you do contract it.
Exercise: No, you don’t want to go to the fitness center until this thing passes. But that doesn’t mean you can’t exercise at home. Where possible, go for a walk or jog. If not, find exercises you can do in the home. Certainly, you can find ideas online.

Blocks of ice falling from cars in McHenry could cause accidents or damage

We’ve all seen those blocks of snow falling from behind the rear tires of a car when the snow rolls into McHenry . Fortunately, they’re just packed snow that will disintegrate under your vehicle’s tires as you simply drive right through them, right? Don’t count on it. Some folks here in McHenry will load up the car and head out to Red Rock Amphitheater near Denver to see a show. Some will go to the MSG Sphere near Las Vegas. Some will go to the Bonaroo Festival Concert to see a show. That’s quite a bit of driving and you’d better make sure your vehicle is up to the trip.
