Daytona 500 Trivia Quiz Answer Sheet

With the Daytona 500 Sunday, last week, this blog ran a trivia quiz about the race and NASCAR. Those who answered the questions correctly, after sending their answers to rich@richpublicity.com, were entered in a contest for a free oil change at Performance Unlimited or, if they’re not in the McHenry County area, Rich Publicity would send them a consolation $5 gift card to use at a Panera Bread store anywhere. Below, we have repeated the questions, though, this time, with their answers. If you didn’t have a chance to enter the contest, you can still see how you did. Daytona 500 Trivia Quiz 1. What was the first year for the Daytona 500 and who won? 1959 and Lee Petty 2. How long did the race last and why? 3 days – it took that long for NASCAR officials to study a photo of the finish and pick Petty as the winner over Johnny Beauchamp. 3. How long did it take for Lee Petty’s son, Richard, to win his first Daytona 500? Five years: Richard Petty won the 1964 Daytona 500. 4. Wh...

Play Daytona 500 trivia and win

This is a big weekend for race fans and most race fans already know why. For those who don’t follow the world of NASCAR as closely, this Sunday is the 2016 Daytona 500. While the Super Bowl is played at the end of the NFL season, racing’s equivalent of the Super Bowl, the Daytona 500, runs at the beginning of the race season. In other words, the NASCAR season starts with the Daytona 500. While this blog usually focuses on tips for car owners and drivers, as a slight diversion this week, we offer Daytona 500 & NASCAR Trivia, mostly the prior. Below, you will find a list of questions about the Daytona 500 and NASCAR. Answer those questions using any resources you wish – online resources, a library or even by asking your Uncle Ted who has followed NASCAR since a little longer than forever. If you get all the answers correct, you have a chance to win. What do you win? You win a free oil change (includes up to five quarts of oil) at Performance Unlimited in Ringwood, IL. If Ringwood...

Potholes, bumps and cracks in the road are costly for your car’s steering and suspension

Some of the roads in McHenry County are, shall we say, less than in the prime of their lives. They have potholes. They have cracks. With stop-gap repairs, they may have bumps built on bumps of asphalt. While it’s uncomfortable driving on a bad stretch of road, such as that, there’s more to it than just comfort; it’s also a matter of cost and safety. If you drove your car on a perfectly smooth road 100 percent of the time your car’s suspension and steering systems would last almost indefinitely. It’s the bumps, potholes and cracks in the road that wear down a car’s steering and suspension. In a worst-case scenario, you could hit a single pothole that would throw your car’s steering out of alignment or damage parts of the steering and/or suspension. A really bad road can damage a wheel or a tire. Thankfully, that doesn’t happen often. Rather, it’s a question of wear that occurs to your car’s steering and suspension little by little over time. Instead of a single pothole costing y...

What are the ingredients of a quality auto repair shop?

In many ways, success breeds success. This is certainly true among auto repair shops. A quality auto repair shop will stick around for years. During that period, it will develop a trusted reputation for quality auto repair and automotive maintenance. And, through word of mouth, that reputation will spread. Based on that reputation, they will attract more and more customers who will add their voices to the spread of the quality auto repair shop’s reputation. More than that, though, the auto repair shop will also attract more qualified auto repair technicians. The best will seek to work for the best. They’ll know that the customers are treated with respect and that respect starts with the way the employees are treated. The most successful auto repair shops, however, have to start somewhere. And, from Day 1, they will have to bring several positive qualities to the table. These include: Superior Auto Repair Skills and Experience: Of course, this includes automotive skills and experi...
